Tampa International Airport Information

Tampa International Airport (IATA: TPA) is located in Tampa, Florida, in the US. It has a central 'landside' terminal with people movers connecting passengers to satellite 'airside' gates, which was a pioneering and celebrated design when it was introduced in the 60s. The airport handles around 20 million passengers a year, with international services including flights to Canada, Mexico, the UK and countries in the Caribbean. Interestingly, Tampa Bay is the birthplace of commercial air service- Pioneer aviator Tony Jannus flew the first scheduled commercial flight on January 1st 1914 from St Petersburg, Florida to Tampa in a flying boat. First opened in 1928 as Drew Field, the airport was used by the Air Force during World War2, and expanded and modernised during this time. After the war domestic and then international flights began, and the airport was renamed Tampa International Airport. The Terminal used now was built in 1971. There are now 4 active airsides, each different to accomodate the needs of their occupying airlines, and 62 gates. There are plans to build a second 'North Terminal' in the near future. Here are some of the major Airlines that service Tampa International Airport: Air Canada AirTran Airways American Airlines British Airways Cayman Airways Continental Airlines Continental Connection operated by Gulfstream International Airlines Continental Express operated by ExpressJet Airlines Delta Air Lines Delta Connection operated by Comair Delta Connection operated by Mesaba Airlines Frontier Airlines Frontier Airlines operated by Republic Airlines JetBlue Airways Southwest Airlines Spirit Airlines Sun Country Airlines United Airlines US Airways WestJet This information was source by Wikipedia at:
